The autoworkers unions of North America, specifically the Canadian and American ones, are one of the biggest reason that the North American automakers are doomed to bankruptcy. Ron Gettelfinger is the president of the United Autoworkers Union, and he really chaps my ass. I heard, unverified, that the average wage for a Canadian autoworker is around $30 an hour. $30 for a no talent jobber, to do a menial task on a production line. It’s because of people like Ron Gettelfinger that these wages are so out of control, because, he actually believes that this is a reasonable wage. Even in this time of economic recession, Gettelfinger doesn’t think it’s right to ask autoworkers to take wage and benefit cuts. No, this is not a joke.
This is the main reason that I hate unions, they make people believe they are worth more than they really are. Why do they do this? Simple, the more money a union worker makes, the more money the union makes. Its all about the Benjamin’s. I don’t want to get to deep into why unions are an archaic and pointless establishment; that is for another time.
Back to the point at hand. Autoworkers make too much money, because the greed of the few has driven the greed of the many, and because of it, the whole world economy is in a downward spiral. Dill holes.
