Let’s start here. Politics is a fairly big-ticket issue, and in recent events, both in Canada and the US, politics and government have been on the tips of many tongues. Thanks to the current world economy (more on that later), there has nary been such importance put on elections (I am going to use words like “nary” a lot). I think that everyone should take an interest in politics; I believe that it is our civic duty to take part in the democratic system. In order to have a government that represents the people, the people need to exercise their right to choose said government.
So, how ‘bout that coalition, eh? Now, I know that with parliament recently having been prorogued, the coalition is somewhat old news, but it is still technically in effect. Now, it is the job of any opposition to be a pain in the ass of the party in power, and they will always skew the facts and numbers to make themselves look better. That is what Jack Layton and Stephane Dion were always spouting, the fact that most voters voted against a Conservative government. The flip side is that even more people voted against each of the opposition parties. You can’t just go and add up all your votes with another guy’s votes and have a group sleepover. But, there’s that pain in the ass thing that they have to do. Hopefully change is on the way with Ignatief as the new opposition leader. If he is concerned with what is best for the country he will put all this partisan politics out of the way and vote on the issues, not on who brought it about.
I realized just recently realized that this topic of politics has way too many facets, so be prepared to read more of this in the future. I’ll try to break it up so you don’t get bored. I’m not really good with the political satire, but if I catch anything I’ll relay it; it’s good stuff.
